This commenting policy, along with TitusNews.com’s Privacy Policy and User Rules, ensures that our comments section remains a constructive and welcoming space for all readers.
At TitusNews.com, we value your input and encourage vibrant discussions in our comments section. We invite you to share your perspectives and participate in debates related to our stories. While we appreciate spirited discussions, we ask that you engage respectfully and constructively. Respect others as you would like to be respected. For your comments to be published, they should align with the ethical standards set by the South African Press Council’s press code. We welcome your thoughts, critiques, and insights, provided they are articulated respectfully.
We strictly prohibit certain types of content, including personal attacks, vulgarity, profanity (even with censored words), fake personas, spam, incoherence, and off-topic remarks. Comments that are racist, sexist, offensive, or constitute any form of hate speech, as outlined by section 16(2) of the South African Constitution, are also unacceptable. While critical discussions on beliefs, institutions, or government actions are part of free speech, attacks based on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or age are not tolerated. Comments that may be illegal, defamatory, infringing, harassing, or misleading are subject to removal.
Our goal is to foster constructive dialogues that enhance the quality of our journalism and your reading experience. By moderating comments, we maintain relevance and respect within our community. While moderation decisions are subjective, our team aims for fairness and consistency. Please note that we cannot engage in detailed discussions about moderation actions, but we will consider any feedback provided.
We reserve the right to close comments on specific articles or topics, typically 12 hours after publication, to maintain constructive and relevant discussions. Closure may also occur if the dialogue no longer contributes positively to the topic.
Comments are displayed at the bottom of the article on which they are posted. They are usually moderated more quickly during business hours, with potential delays in the evening or on weekends.
If your comment doesn’t immediately appear, it may have been flagged for moderation due to suspect language or content. Please be patient; your comment will appear once it has been approved.
We welcome constructive criticism of our work, but personal attacks against our journalists or staff are not permitted. Criticisms should focus on the content of articles.
Repeated violations of our policy may result in timeouts or permanent bans from commenting. A timeout lasts 24 hours, but persistent misconduct may lead to a ban. Offensive usernames will also result in a timeout until changed.
Bans can be appealed by contacting info@titusnews.com. The decision of the moderators is final.
Please send potential news tips and story ideas to info@titusnews.com. For minor errors like typos, contact us via the same email. For significant factual errors, please reach out to our public editor, Calvin Swemmer (calvin@titusnews.com)
You can edit your comments shortly after posting to correct errors. If you need to delete a comment for a serious reason, contact our moderators.
